Jenn and Steph will be honeymooning in India. In fact, Jenn has already arrived in country. She called last night from Goa, in the southern part of the country, to report that despite nearly 36 hours in planes and airports and funny little packages of sterile food, she had arrived in one piece.
Yes, normally when people go on a honeymoon they do it after their wedding, and they do it, well, together. Alas, Jenn and Steph aren't really normal.
This trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity: a year ago our good friend Lisa Matthaus took a year off from her work at the Sierra Club to journey to India, where she has been exploring ever since. She will return to Canada at the end of February. Jenn and Steph decided to meet up with Lisa in order to experience this amazing, but challenging country under the tutalage of an experienced guide. That meant taking our honeymoon before we actually tied the knot.
Why travel separatly you ask? Steph can only fanagle three weeks off from his work from Royal Roads University, while Jenn has laboured so hard over the last few years at the Sierra Club that she's banked a tonne of extra vacation time. And there are the kids to think of: Steph's never been away from Rio and Silas for more than two weeks. His three week trip will be a challange in that regard. So he'll be leaving for his 36 hour odessey on Friday February 13th. Yes, he's choosing to fly from Victoria to Seattle, Seattle to Amsterdamn, Amsterdamn to Mumbia, and Mumbia to Goa, or maybe Kotchin...on Friday the 13th.
Hmmmm.
So all that remains is to decide what to call this trip. The word honeymoon refears to that period of time after getting married when all is matrimonial bliss....What do we call this trip? Prenymoon? That sounds stupid. हनीमून ? Well, that's how you write it in Hindi. But its kinda hard to say....
This being a blog, we'd like to invite you to offer some suggestions. What do you call a honeymoon in India taken before the happy couple het hitched?
And take this opportunity to sign up as a follower of this blog: we'll post a few updates from our travels in India as a reward.
